Fruits
Fruits are some of the most nutritious food items, loaded with vitamins and minerals essential for the human body. An orange is rich in vitamin C, a banana is one of the best sources of magnesium, and an avocado is a famous superfood, containing all the vital nutrients. There are over 2,000 varieties of fruits — many of them equally healthy, and some may taste even better.
In botany, there are three main types of fruits:
- Simple: This category includes most of the fruits we know. Mango, apple, orange, watermelon, and tomato are all examples of simple fruits. These are further divided into drupes (e.g. peach), berries (e.g., blueberry), and pomes (e.g., apple).
- Aggregate: When many berries or drupes combine to form a single gruit, it becomes an aggregate fruit. Examples include strawberries and blackberries.
- Multiple: A multiple fruit develops from many flowers that cluster together to form a single fruit. Jackfruits and pineapples are multiple fruits.
This is a basic explanation of the ‘scientific classification’ of fruits. Now, take a look at a list of fruits that are most common and popular all over the world.
